When it comes to making deliveries, knowing the weights and dimensions of our trucks is vital. It can be the difference between a smooth operation and a significant delay. In this post, we will cover the essential details about our trucks, including their dimensions, boom reach, and how to prepare for our arrival. By planning in advance, you can help us avoid potential obstacles and ensure that deliveries go off without a hitch.

Weights and Dimensions of Our Trucks

Our trucks are specifically engineered to handle various loads with a focus on safety and efficiency. Depending on the model, the dimensions can vary, but here are some common specifications:

  • Length: 30 feet from headlight to tailboard.

  • Width: Generally around 8 feet. but mirrors add another foot.

  • Height: Stowed away height is 13feet.

Understanding these measurements is crucial when selecting a delivery site. For example, if your site has an overhead structure such as a low-hanging canopy, it might not provide enough clearance for our truck. To minimize risks, always confirm that there is adequate space for both the truck and any potential load.

Planning Ahead for Our Arrival

Before we arrive, it's essential to evaluate the delivery site. This involves identifying any potential hazards that may impede our operation.

Obstructions to Look For

  1. Telephone Wires: These can obstruct the truck's operations, especially if they hang too low. We recommend measuring the wire height against our truck's operating maximum height of

  2. Electrical Cables: Much like telephone wires, low-hanging electrical cables can pose a serious risk during delivery. So a general rule of thumb is to avoid the area within 10 metres of overhead lines.

  3. Trees and Overhanging Branches: Inspect the area for trees or branches that could obstruct the boom's operation. Trucks are much larger than some anticipate and the operating height of the grab boom is an additional height of 8ft on top of the already stowed away height of 13ft. Combining these two figures together means a required overall height of 21ft of clearance is needed before any operations can commence including tipping.

By assessing these factors ahead of time, you can help us avoid unforeseen delays during delivery. For instance, around 25% of delivery delays occur due to unanticipated site obstructions, which can easily be avoided with proper planning.

Understanding Boom Length and Reach

The boom on our trucks is a crucial feature, allowing us to safely lift and place heavy items. The specifications can differ among models, but generally:

  • Boom reach: 23 feet or 7 metres from the curb side of the vehicle.

  • Maximum Lifting weight: Lifting tolerance depends on how close the vehicle is to the object. Generally between 900kg fully extended boom to 2.5 ton close in.

Knowing the boom's capabilities is essential for successful execution. For example, if we need to reach for any type materials on site, understanding how far we can extend the boom ensures we can position ourselves safely and accurately.

Preparing the Delivery Site

Proper preparation can help make the delivery process much smoother. Here are a few steps to consider:

  1. Clear the Area: Make sure the delivery site is devoid of debris and obstacles, enabling our trucks to manoeuvre freely.

  2. Mark the Delivery Zone: Clearly marking the delivery area helps our team identify where the truck and boom should be positioned for optimal operation.

  3. Communicate with Our Team: If you have specific concerns or needs, sharing this information in advance is critical. This helps us align our processes with your expectations.

Taking these steps not only enhances efficiency but also contributes to a more organized delivery process.

Safety First

Safety is our absolute priority throughout the delivery process. By understanding truck weights, dimensions, and boom reach, you can help create a safer working environment.

Key Safety Tips

  • Maintain a safe distance from the truck during operations, as this protects against any unexpected movements.

  • Ensure all personnel are informed about the delivery schedule and the areas impacted.

  • Use clear hand signals or other communication methods to coordinate with our team as we execute the delivery.

Following these practices can significantly enhance the safety of everyone involved and reduce the likelihood of accidents.

Final Thoughts

Understanding the weights and dimensions of our trucks, along with the boom's reach, is vital for ensuring successful deliveries. By checking for potential obstructions and prepping your delivery site in advance, you can play a significant role in making the operation run smoothly. Remember, safety is everyone’s responsibility, and your proactive participation is essential for a successful delivery experience.
